Found an article (defence aerospace.com) that the THK has issued a RFP for 36 (+19) new basic trainers. Of note is that one of the criteria is for turboprop power, so after many years of T-37 operations they have decided that t/p power is the way to go (bad news for the Macchi M311 & M346 – again!). No mention of aircraft types, though i assume the usual suspects will be in the running (T-6 the most likely ?).
