Announced in Sydney today PM John howard and Defence Minister Robert Hill were delighted to say that they will spend another billion dollars on the ADF to buy more equipment and recruit more troops.
The announcment was made on the midday new on ABC and covers some major projects in various stages of planning or completion for the Australia Defence Forces, these include:
More Tiger ARH helos
More MRH-90’s than the first 12 to be ordered (this could finally see the Seakings retire next year especially after their latest grounding for a similar problem that has been found which caused Shark 02 to crash on Nias killing 11 and injuring 2)
More M-1A1 AIM Abrams tanks
Strategic Transport Aircraft in the size catagory of the AN-124
New “Small” and “Personal” arms for the troops (especially the army)
Finally on the bill, recruitment of more troops (especially in the army) over the next five years (they are looking at a 10% growth on current figures).
