Hello all,
Having specialized in the F-16 over the years I have recently thrown my “love” on the Egyptian Air Force F-16s. I have been searching the web for information, but only small pieces of the puzzle comes to light.
Concerning the various mods/pods of the EAF I have been searching the web for additional information. I found out the following;
AIM-120s will most certainly be approved in the near future as the AIM-7 replacement on the F-16s – allthough denied so far by the Jewish lobby in the US, AMRAAMs will go to the EAF at last. This goes for the AGM-88, as well.
Six Modular Recce Pods (manufactured partly by the Per Udsen company here in Denmark) were included in the latest batch – PV VI – of block-40 F-16s (US build).
Furthermore, the AIFF system known from the MLU F-16s and the US CCIP will eventually be installed in all EAF F-16s – the B15s most likely to be MLU`ed. Allthough I have seen a formation picture of a mix of EAF F-16s where the first delivered B15 – 80-0639 (9301) – was modified with the WAR HUD and larger fin base of the -C/D family (maybe a test aircraft). Also the first B32 in the same photo – 84-1332 (9501) – was similar modified.
Furthermore, have any of You seen the EAF F-16s equipped with TGPs – AAQ-14s/Sharpshooters?? How frequent would these pods be carried – since “only” 45 of them are in use with the EAF, I suppose they are only carried in small numbers by the F-16 units – primarely the 272 FB at Genaclis and the 262 FB at Abu Suwayr.
I also wonder if the current BRU-42s are used or if it would be the “original” TER compatible to many aircraft?? And if carrying AGM-65s would it be the LAU-88 or the single rail LAU-117 launcher to use??
I also read the the “new” base at Fayid are housing at least the PV VI Block-40s – the 40 FS and it seems that the 64 FS from Abu Suweir has moved to Fayed as well. The base are equipped with 36 TAB-Vs, so a two-squadron base seems logical.
Well, I hope any of You can help with answering the above matters.
Many thanks and greetings,
Henrik
