In all probability the Indian MRCA competition will be decided between the Mirage-2005 and the MIG-29 variants. But never underestimate the power of the American govt lobby. If the Indian govt buckles to American lobbying or falls for the additional hi-tech goodies and promises of joint tech development and nuclear co-operation the F-16 and the F-18 Superhornet stand a good chance.
In such a scenerio which aircraft is better suited to Indian conditions and the role the IAF has in mind for them. How do these two aircraft stack up against each other keeping in mind that the PAF is talking about getting around 75 F-16’s. The F-18 was mainly developed as a naval aircraft evolving from the YF-17, so how suited is it for purely Airforce operations.
All in all if they meet each other in combat which aircraft would come out on top assuming equal pilot skill and conditions. Let’s keep those “Superbug “comments aside for the moments please.
