I was wondering why the MiG-15 was chosen to be produced in far larger numbers than the La-15. I don’t really know much about the La-15 aside from the fact it was built around the same time frame, and obviously was a Lavochkin design. I believe it was also the first Russian jet to have hydraulics (?) in its flight controls.
It looks very similar to the MiG, with the high mounted wing being the biggest difference I see between the two of them.
It was similarly armed with three 23-mm cannons (although the MiG-15 obviously had two 23-mm weapons along with a 37-mm gun), and I believe it could be fitted with an external fuel tank on the fuselage, although it had no underwing hardpoints.
Can anyone tell me why so few La-15’s were built? I find the Fantail to be a very interesting design, and I’ve noticed in some documentaries about the MiG-15 you see on TV, they have used footage of an La-15 (with a red nose……anyone seen it?) when referring to the MiG.
