Bulgaria’s Defense Ministry has chosen Elbit Systems teaming together with US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin as the preferred bidder to upgrade 18 combat and transport helicopters.
According to an announcement released Tuesday, Elbit Systems will be the prime contractor for the project to upgrade 12 MI-24 combat helicopters and six MI-17 transport helicopters. The goal is to make the Russian-designed helicopters comply with NATO standards.
The project is subject to completion of negotiations and signing of a contract with the Government of Bulgaria, the announcement said.
The value of the contract was not immediately released
