Between the two, which would be more ideal for the LWF role?
The Mirage 2000-5mk2 is chosen because it is not a special order (like the 2000-9), and is signficantly cheaper. And before you ask, yes there are minor differences between the 5mk2 and 9, so you ignoramus who can’t recognize the differences should be wary of Google’s wrath as he will set you straight.
Mirage2k5mk2.
An older airframe it is with an older engine, but regardless, is much cheaper to operate than the F-16C, has high operational rates based on Taiwanese and Indian AF experience, and high sortie rates.
Although it does not have AMRAAM, it does have MICA and actually has more hard points to carry weapons, a wider array of weapons to choose from (for now), and can carry it farther.
The virtually all French components make it less subject to Americano influence (but then makes you subject to French corporate greed, ask the Peruvians)
However it’s future growth potential may not be as advantageous of the Gripenish, and its EW and network warfare capabilities not as well developed as Gripen
on the other hand the Gripen’s design is newer (not by much), and has a wide range of EW and network warfare installed. It’s slightly cheaper to operate.
However it only has 7 pylons (no matter what you say), of which one or two are most likely going to be used by gas tanks so the Gripen actually goes somewhere, leaving you with less room for actual weapons. It’s vital components are American (Air to Air Missiles, Engine, etc). It does however have future growth as it will use European munitions like Taurus, Meteor etc S.African missiles, and possibly Israeli.
Both are rather expensive. but the 2000-5mk2, based on the Greek deal, is cheaper.
