Writes Flight International in its current #41 issue on page 6.
First words about that were out a few days after the RAH-66 was cancelled, now things get more concrete.
U.S.Army has released a draft RFP for an “Armed Reconnaisance Helicopter”. Specs call for sensors, machine gun, Hydras and Hellfires.
Candidates so far are Augusta-Westland’s A109/A119/A129/AB139, Boeing with another incarnation of its MH-6, MHDI with another version of more or less the same, and Bell with the 427. EADS will follow this week, propably with a EC120/135/155. And Sikorsky has jet to make up its mind, maybe they use their newly accquired Schweizers for this (nice).
The Army wants to buy 368 ARHs.
I think UAVs would make more sense. By the time these 368 aircraft would be delivered, UAVs would be advanced enough to do the same job.
