As I understand, most IR detectors in early IR AAMs utilized cooled InSb or InP seeker heads due to their small bandgap. But for the new generation of focal plane array AAMs (e.g. AIM-9X), what sort of detectors are they using? Are they utilizing QWIPs? or has that technology not yet matured to the point where they can be cost effectively integrated, or does the military not care about cost?
