Chin intakes vs side intakes

I notice that for a while, Chin intakes were popular.. with the F-16 being one of the first one in it’s generation to sport it..then the EF-2000 Typhoon, Lavi, and J-10 doing the same. The MiG-29 and Sukhois use two intakes but they’re placed well below the fueselage like the Chin intakes..

but now we see a switch to side intakes again (but a bit different than say the F-4’s intakes)

like the Rafale, Yak-130, S-37, Gripen, Golden Eagle and Ching Kuo

what are the pros and cons of the two types of intakes..

supposedly I heard side intakes are easier to widen for increased air flow.
