Windhund

Does anybody recognise if such a sensor as this is in use today-

“a sensor called Windhund (wind-hound).Windhund was a “sniffer” device that detected the prescene of aircraft by measureing the differences in the polarity of the surrounding air. It then automatically directed its parent aircraft to follow the trail”

taken from “The Hunt for Zero Point” by Nick Cook, aviation journalist with Janes Defence Weekly and Interavia.
The device in question was an experimental sensor developed by the Nazis in WW2 for detecting bomber formations.
