F-18s over london

Bit of a random question this, but perhaps someone on this forum will remember something about it as to me it was quite an extraordinary event.

I was in central London in Spring 2002 (just coming out of Guy’s Hospital), near London Bridge. I heard a terrific roar and a pair of fighter jets flew right overhead VERY low – in fact they were probabaly only about 500′.

One of them had rolled onto its side and I even remember seeing the pilots head looking down.

This all happened in a split second – I thought they were both F-16s, but someone told me later they were F-18s. Either way, I would dearly like to know what they were up to!

They were roughly on an easterly heading.

We get a lot of Chinooks flying along the heli corridor, but it goes without saying that this was a lot more spectacular!

I know it happened a long time agao, but with the paranoia following 9/11 it seems to me that this inbcident was related…

Anyine know anything?
