Q-5 Fantan

I know we had a thread about PAF A-5’s recently, but I figured why not a thread about the whole family and all their respective users.

I’m especially interested in learning about PLAAF and PLAN Q-5’s especially about how much longer they are planned to be in service, what weapons they currently use or are projected to get, missions they fly (including any air-to-air combat training missions they might perform…..perhaps to keep the pilot’s proficient at self defense tactics?), and the current (and future) variants (including avionics and equipment and engine fit).

Oh and if anyone has good Q-5 photos please post them.

From what I can gather the Q-5 is operated by China (PLAAF & PLAN), North Korea, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Am I missing any nation?

Always liked this (and similar) photos of armorers loading Fantans with what appear to be 150-kg bombs (just a guess at the weight).

MiG-19 family history is clearly evident in this photo.

The business end of the Fantan….complete with 23-mm cannons.

Can anyone explain the nose on this one?

Ditto for this one (and the paint scheme).

I love a good old three-view now and again.
