I guess I am on my own on this but I personally think the RSAF is pretty good. I think thier rep for being under trained is not deserved and they at least seem very capable.
In the next few years they could be getting the Paveway IV bomb, JDAM and AIM-120. They have a very large F-15 fleet and Tornado strike planes along with AWACs and tankers. The RSAF got 72 F-15S (Slightly downgraded F-15E), over 90 F-15C/D, and a good number of Tornado IDS and 24 Tornado ADV. The Tornado ADV could be turned into a recce plane but it would be nice if they did a similar upgrade like the RAF did and make them into SEAD planes.
The training component is made up of modern lead in trainers such as the Hawk. The RSAF has a good number of options to replace the F-5E/F/RF, which are now tasked with CAS work and are the least capable fighter in their service. The Tornado IDS will be upgraded to use the British made Paveway IV and the European Storm Shadow, which are very good weapons and will add to the ability of the RSAF. The E-3 AWACs is the best of its kind and has been in service for some time making it more then likely that they can operate it and it is a factor in planned operations. If the Saudis get the AIM-120 it could transform them into a very capable offensive air force. And with GPS guided weapons…enough said…
Personally in the next few years I think they could with ease become the best airforce in the Middle East.
