All this talk about how effective fighters and bombers are or how great attack helicopters are and no one mentions the one essential aircraft no nation can afford to go without, the tactical and strategic transports.
Which transports are best suited to their jobs?
As far as tactical transports are concerned I have always favoured the An-32 over the C-130 in terms of reliability, although Romanians claim the C-130 is more reliable than their An-26s. However given that several nations which fly the C-130 such as Mexico and Sri Lanka have spoken out in favour of the Clines ability to survive better in tropical environments and that other nations flying the An-32 have done so without a lot of support and few problems in keeping them flying I say this goes in favour of giving the Antonov the title of best tactical transport.
Strategic simply goes to the Il-76, because it just looks so damn good!!! 😀
