I would greatly appreciate any information, thoughts and opinions on what direction and equipment the Spanish Air Force (and naval/army aviation) should/will pursue in the next decade or two.
and also why?
– I am only currently aware of the Typhoon procurement program but what, in its limited numbers is it going to actually replace…the mirages or the F-18s or a combination? what other combat jets are they considering?
– How old (and in need of replacement) are the first batch F-18A aswell as the second hand ones they recieved more recently?
– Also do you think the Armada’s AV-8 will be replaced by the JSF, that is ofcourse assuming Spain will retain it lone carrier
– Spain appears to have a very limited heavy lift capability relying on C-130 and foreign contracts, should/can they develop an independent heavy lift capability and what form should it take, A-400 perhaps?
– Is there any plans to upgrade the army aviations cobras, I heard some Apaches may be ordered…anyone?
Those are just a few of the questions im posing for myself, so please add your own. Also when answering please bear in mind financial and political restriction and remember that this is quite along term matter, next 10 and 20 years, so not only will new stuff be available but also current stuff will need replacing.
The reason i ask: This will be an element in one of my Masters classes on Defence Analysis and it is not assessed, its simple an introductory/practice assignment. I know very little on this particular armed forces and there appears to be relatively little information, especially about the future plans, available in English text.
Also this is what i love doing anyway, ive finally found a way to combine what i do in my spare time to what i may make a living from!
Thank you for your time and hopefully thank you for your replies!
Regards
– Joe
