IAF Modernistation Plans 2003-2015

Hello Guys.

Just thought I would ask your thoughts on India,s plans to modernise its air force and whether this would make them one of the best and most potent in the world by 2015

Potential IAF by 2015

200 su30mki

150 LCA tejas in 3 blocks of 50 planes each. Each block upgraded a step further.

60 MIG29 UPG

60 MIRAGE 2000 UPG

100 JAGUAR UPG

100 MIG27UPG

3-5 PHALCON AWACS……..

plus PAK FA maybe in final testing phase. ie 5th generation indo russian fighter with french/israeli assistance…….

Surely this would give IAF the best in Asia with only Israelis and prehaps japan with their JSFs better……

I estimate total cost to acheive above about $7 billion for su30mki, $6 billion for LCA includes $2 billion development cost.

Another $4 billion for upg to JAG, MIG27/29 & MIRAGE. pHALCON WE KNOW WILL COST $1 BILLION.

Surelyy this is possible for India who many tip to have a $trillon dollar GDP by 2010 or 2012 latest.

Current defense spend $15 billion per yr.

Reserves $82 billion and GDP $600 BILLION in 2003 end of.
