RAF's Latest ‘Top Gun’ Training Simulators Unveiled

One of the world’s most advanced military fast-jet training systems was officially unveiled today at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.

The system, which includes state-of-the art flight simulators, means the crews of the RAF’s latest Tornado bombers can learn and practice highly complex flying and battle skills before taking to the skies for real.

As part of a £215 million Private Finance Initiative (PFI), the system trains both students and experienced aircrews on the latest Tornado aircraft, the GR4 – an aircraft that flew 20,000 sorties during recent operations over Iraq.

Oki I really do not understand why the MOD wants to pay so much for the tornado’s, would it not be better to start simulations for the EFA?

I also wonder is the power behind this simulator is the next generation games console. One example would be the chip developed for Tank(?) training, and then used in the Nintendo 64 and sold on the streets for 100 Pounds.
