Is this possible?

Recently I saw a program about US military training. The program described realistic training using “OPFOR” (I do not remember if this is the correct term for the units simulating opposition forces). I can not recall the name of the base or the exercise (it was in the desert…Nevada maybe). I’ll try to find out. Anyway, the show described how US soldiers/pilots using a Mil Mi 24 Hind (I don’t know which version) were able to shoot down a jet, an F-15 if I remember correctly. According to the narrartor, this happened on more than one occasion. I know that this was just a training exercise, but I have the following questions:

1) Is this possible? (I know it happened in training, but is it possible in real life?)

2) Which version of an Mil Mi 24 is capable of carrying an AAM?

3) What is that likely missle?

4) Can something like this happen without the use of a missle, just the gun or cannon on the Hind? (It sounds weird just reading that statement back to myself)
