Following up a previous thread about surviving MiG-21 SMT’s, on a recent visit to St Petersburg, we took a drive to Gatchina and there, newly erected on a scaffold was a MiG-21SMT !!
Gatchina is home to one of the palaces of Peter the Great’s son, Paul – and also now houses an aero engine museum – but we didn’t have time to visit either.
It is also the site of one of Russia’s first aerodromes – hence the new memorial with the MiG – now at the junction of two roads and surrounded by apartment buildings.
As soon as I get my pics developed, I’ll post them here…
