The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has contracted with BAE Systems to provide the Hawk Mk 128 to meet the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) requirement, with an in-service date of 2008. The award, announced on 30 July, is for an initial 20 Hawk 128s (expected to be designated Hawk T.2 in RAF nomenclature), with an option for a further 24 aircraft. If all 44 aircraft are procured, the value to BAE Systems is expected to be worth approximately Pds800 million (US$1.29bn).
