Date line: MOSCOW
Russia has signed a contract to sell Vietnam two battalions of S-300PMU1 surface-to-air missiles in a deal worth 200 million dollars (184 million euros), Interfax quoted military sources as saying Friday.

The source said the agreement was struck during the MAKS-2003 air trade show now underway on the outskirts of Moscow, and that the missiles would be delivered to Vietnam in 2005.

The missile has a range of up to 200 kilometers (120 miles) and travels at a speed of up to three kilometers per second, according to the Federation of American Scientists military research group.

It can splinter to hit several incoming missiles or enemy jets simultaneously, the research group said.

The Vedomosti business daily separately reported that the deal can actually be worth 300 million dollars.
