Another question on the Afghan’ conflict.
I’ve read a lot of reports on the Su-24s service record in Afghanistan but am curious to losses.
According to Soviet reports no Su-24 was ever lost to ground fire during the conflict due to the aircrafts operating heights, self-defence systems and so on but the Soviets did not specify if any Fencer was lost to enemy action.
Did they lose any on the ground due to mortar attacks, I know the Mujahadeen launched a number of attacks on Soviet airfields.
Also, a wild claim was made by a Pakistani living in Britain some time ago on a certain military aviation magazine that the PAF “downed thousands of Su-24s without loss”, given that the Soviets had a handful of Fencers at the most in the region I assume that this chappy is dreaming? Were ANY NUMBER of Fencers lost to the PAF at any time???
