Helicopters/Bombs

I have a question regarding unguided bombs being employed from helicopters.

Apparently, from what I can gather, the AH-1 Cobra can carry the Mk-82 (and Mk-81 250-lb. bomb although that bomb is no longer in service to my knowledge) 500-lb. bomb. The Mi-24 Hind and Mi-8/17 Hip can carry a range of Russian bombs ranging from 110-lb. (50-kg) to 1,100-lb. (500-kg) weapons.

I was wondering if any of these helicopters have ever actually used these bombs in combat. If so, how do they do it? I mean they don’t have the speed of an aircraft to escape the blast radius. I can’t really picture a helicopter doing a dive bombing attack. Level bombing would seem to be difficult as well.

Can anyone explain to me how a helicopter would employ these weapons? And if they have ever used bombs in combat I’d like to know the details on it.
