US Navy EA-6B Prowler Runs Off Carrier – Crew Safe

Three Navy aviators were safe after their EA-6B Prowler apparently lost its brakes while landing on the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis Tuesday night at 21:15 Pacific Standard Time (11th February) and rolled off the flight deck.

The crew was able to eject safely and were fished out of the Pacific off Southern California with no serious injuries, the Navy said Wednesday.

The Prowler was attached to VAQ-129 (Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 129) based at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in Washington state. The Vietnam-era jet is used to jam enemy radar and communications during missions by attack aircraft or ground troops.

The San Diego-based Stennis was conducting training following a routine maintenance period. Flight operations resumed shortly after the mishap.
