Kanwa’s spokesman A.Pinkov (Yihong Chang) confirms today that the first batch of 10 J10A fighters has already been deployed in the Air Force units of Nanjing Military Command in August 2002.

The fighter is outfitted with Russian AL31FN turbofan engine and China’s Type 1473 home-grown fire control radar system. Meanwhile, Shenyang Aircraft Company has formally started the development project of China’s 4th generation stealth heavy-duty fighters after J10A. The project is currently going on smoothly, and the wing tunnel test is about to start.

China has made important breakthroughs in the essential engine TVC (thrust vector control) technology needed by this major project. The flight test of the new generation WS10A turbofan engines had already been completed on SU27 fighters.
