On the first look it may be the case. Since only mockups have been displayed for both aircraft, it is difficult to say. (though the FTC does seem to have an extra long nose).
If true, then I guess a reasoning for giving a different name can be to allow China to sell FTC-2000 as a different product in its own right, a competitor to the likes of KTX-2 (?) AJT.
Considering how expensive FGA are getting, an AJT with even a limited BVR + supersonic capability will be god-sent for smaller airforces.
