Mexican AWACS

After aquiring the R-99A from Embraer in Brazil, it now looks as though the FAM are to buy three of the four ex IDF/AF E-2C’s. Two of these aircraft (ex 941 and 944)are known to have IFR probes, and Hatzralim division of IAI will undertake refurbishment of the planes before the move on to their new home in Mexico, it’s possible that the third plane (ex 946) might have it’s probe installed. the last of the E-2c’s will stay in Israel as a museum piece.

So it looks as if the FAM are starting to get serious about the Durg runners intruding into their air space. What I want to know is, what will they use to actually combat them with, sure they can now see them, but they need a combat plane to deter any incursions and if nessecary bring them down. They can’t send the F-5E’s up after a slow moving Cesna. Maybe they are planing later, to buy some of the A-29’s and employ them in a similar fashion to the Brazilian tactics in the Amazon, food for thought!
