Perhaps a silly question….

But one that nevertheless I have to ask.

Chile has purchased 10 F-16C/D Block 52+’s at a cost of about $700 million. Why the hell so expensive? I fully understand the fact that if you buy more and include ‘options’ into the deal it will bring the cost of the package down, and that the weapons package also works in the same way, but this is alittle much is it not? Greece bought 60 of the same type (10 on options included) and with the options plus weapons the deal is around $2.5-2.8 billion. 6 times more aircraft for a substantially smaller price per unit.

What gives? Why the hell would Chile opt for such an expensive solution? $700 for 10 a/c is too much.
