Hi guys , Wondering if anybody could help out a brand new forum member , It allways puzzled me as to why the USN removed the capability to hunt subs in its vikings, does’nt it leave a huge gap of protection in the carrier battle group ? surely by the time it would take a seahawk to detect a sub so close to the CBG it would be too late( seahawks only provide the in close protection don’t they?)
Would’nt the viking provide a great deal of protection by sweeping large areas of open ocean(where P-3 support is not possible)well before the CBG entered it?
It can’t because of age because they still use them in the tanker and sea control roles .
Please help!
