Two transport aircraft of the Indian Navy collided in mid-air near Dabholim airport in Panaji on Tuesday morning, an Indian Air Force spokesman said.
One plane fell on a bungalow, 20 km from the airport, while the other crashed near the Naval museum, leading to the death of three people and injuring seven. At least 14 naval personnel were believed to be travelling in the two planes, and were feared killed.
The IAF spokesman, Squadron leader Dhingra, said the accident occurred when two IL-38 transport aircraft were flying in formation as part of Indian Navy anniversary celebrations.
The accident occurred around 1000 IST.
Dabholim airport has been shut down. Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami, who is already in Panaji, will be visiting the accident site shortly.
