How does the US Navy protect its battle groups when they pass through vulnernable points such as the Suez Canal, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden or the Strait of Hormuz?
Bearing in mind the proximity to the coast, some of these, notably the Suez are a potential terrorist striking point with either suicide bombers on boats packed with explosives or land-based missiles. So how does the USN keep this threat at bay – are there Marines on shore, spies, does the level of alert increase, etc?
