Smashing picture of the new Matra Mistral (Version-ALAMO) MANPAD system used by the Cyprus National Guard:

The missile is being used in the MANPAD / VSHORAD, naval SIMBAD and truck mounted version as above. There was also some confusion as to whether the Mistral would be used instead of the SA-18 Igla to arm the 12 Mi-24VK-II Hinds which arrived last year.
By basic opinion, how does Mistral compare to Stinger and Igla in terms of performance etc? Would it be a good idea to mount them on the SA-342 Gazelles still in stock?
I think the Gazelles currently use HOT-1, which is a basic deterrent against slow helicopters, but not good against something like a Turkish AH-1Z.
Cyprus has been gradually replacing its fleet of 20L/100M SA-7B Grails with the Matra Mistral. A number of SA-7 Grails were reportedly given to the Kurdish people to defend themselves against ethnic cleansing by the Turkish army.
