Kuwait
Have apparently announced the intention to order an unspecified number of Super Hornets. How many would they be looking at if this is true?
Have also ordered an additional batch of 24 NORINCO PLZ-45 SPGs from China and possibly another batch later. What I would like to know more about is why did they choose the Chinese system in the first place?
The US army has a permanent mechanized infantry brigade HQ based in Kuwait, can anyone detail their exact ORBAT?
Iran
They apparently have three 1,200 ton corvettes under construction. Does anyone know more about these ships?
Pakistan
They still seem to be negotiating for the delivery of one Jiangwei II class FFG and the domestic constructiuon of another 3. This deal seems to have been in the works for some time, does anyone know if it is close to been finalised?
Russia
The new BOREY class SSBN is to be armed with a sea-based version of the SS-27 TOPOL-M ICBM, does anyone know how this development is progressing, and whether or not the first BOREY is still under construction at all. Projected service date is 2010.
The Gulf
The HAT or Hizam Al-Taawun “Belt of Co-operation” aircraft indentification and tracking system linking the respective Air Defence systems of Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE was formerly activated in Feb.2001. Can someone tell me more about this system?
Syria
The Almanac states uncomfirmed reports suggesting a batch of four Su-27SKs been delievered with more on the way this year. Can ANYONE comfirm or deny this for sure??
