RMAF Mig 29N have never fired its missiles in anger towards any aggressors. For the record -during a no of joint air exercise with allies -RMAF Migs have performed well against F16/FA18s.
Case in point:
STARFISH and MAJOR ADEX exercise:
RMAF Migs have gained a no of VFR ‘killed’against RAAF FA18 and RSAF F16C/D.
RTAF F16 OCU – also have been killed by the NO 17/19 sqn pilots during the AIRTHAMAL exercise.
On average Migs scored a stunning 4:1 kill ratio against similar a/c in VFR engagements (using guns,IR missiles and HMD)-and slightly lower 2:1 kill ratio against similar a/c in BVR sorties (using AA10/AA12).
But of course Malaysian Migs -also suffered a kill or two against a highly experienced F16s pilots from RSAF,USAF,RTAF…etc. The most killed was achieved by the USAF F16C ALASKA ANG-during a joint exercise in Kuantan. They need the exposure since they would be the first sqn to face the Migs if war to broke out between US/Russia.Overall RMAF MIgs driver could deliver if the need ever arise.
