YAL-1 First Flight

At 0930 CST, this wierd looking 747 lifted off of the ground at Boeing’s Wichita, KS facility (conveniently on the other side of the flight line from McConnell AFB, where I am stationed STILL). It was the first flight of the Airborne Laser, the YAL-1. Cool stuff. Air warfare has certainly just taken the next step in its evolution.
