WASHINGTON (AFX) – An F-117 stealth fighter has accidentally dropped three non-explosive 25-pound training bombs over the southwest of the US, hitting a house in the town of Monahans, Texas, an air force spokeswoman said.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the error, which occurred yesterday, said major Marisse Bradshaw, a spokeswoman for the air force’s air combat command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.
“There was one bomb that actually hit a house” in Monahans, she confirmed. Two other bombs landed in remote areas of Pecos, Texas and Maljamar, New Mexico.
The F-117 was on a routine training mission out of Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico when it released the string of bombs.
An investigation is underway, Bradshaw said.
