UAE MOVES PILOT TRAINING TO AUSTRALIA
ABU DHABI [MENL] — The United Arab Emirates has sent its cadets for air training in Australia rather than the United States.
Industry sources confirmed a report that UAE cadets, all of whom are teenagers, will be sent to western Australia to begin flight training. Abu Dhabi has ordered 80 F-16 Block 60 multi-role jets in a $6.4 billion deal.
UAE authorities ended their policy of sending the cadets to U.S. training schools. The sources said after 10 years of American training Australia was chosen to host the cadets.
The West Australian newspaper reported that 145 high school students will arrive in Perth over the weekend to begin training. The cadets from the UAE Air Force Secondary School will first study English at Edith Cowan University.
