Norway evaluates 'manned UAV'

The Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) has modified one of its Saab
MFI-17
Supporter basic trainers with a FLIR Systems Inc electro-optic
surveillance
system and a datalink. The modification, performed by the FLO/Luft
defense
logistic organization depot at Kjeller Air Station in February 2002,
was
ordered to allow the aircraft to be operated in a similar fashion to a
surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), albeit with a safety pilot
on
board.

It seems like the RMAF has hit upon a winner with this idea (Remember the Eagle UAV). Maybe the USAF miight want to look into something along these lines to save some money? Say a maned UAV based around a Cessna 152 Aerobat.
