The Swiss Alps will be used soon as training ground for some 70 pilots of helicopters of the Royal Air Force. They will come to be
familiarized with the flight in high mountain on board four Super Puma.
This agreement was announced in London at the time of the visit of the federal adviser Samuel Schmid with his English counterpart, the Minister for defense Geoffrey Hoon. After having made knowledge,
the two men reviewed various topics, of which the situation in Afghanistan, in the Middle East and, generally, after September 11.
The dialogue between the two men was “very interesting and profitable”, said Oswald Sigg, spokesman of the DDPS (Swiss Ministry of Defence). The explanations given by Mr. Hoon on the organization of the British services of information has particularly interested Samuel Schmid, according to Mr. Sigg.
