Pictures of FAS 509 Magister Fouga CM-170 of El Salvador Air Force.
This plane crashed last January 16th on the runways of the Ilopango Air Force base. Unfortunately, Col. Milton Andrade died in the crash. He was the Commander of the El Salvador Air Force. He was practicing for an upcoming air show.
Two Fougas were painted this way: FAS 509/510. They resemble a national bird from El Salvador, the Torogoz.
They were to fly as opposing solo planes with the Cuscatlan Acrobatic team of the El Salvador Air Force. The other is flown by Col. Palacios, Commander of the Comalapa Air Force base, near the International Airport.
Paradoxically, the surviving Fouga was Col. Andrade’s personal mount. It still has his name and call sign “Olafo” printed on the side of the cockpit.
