-On January 21 2002, the first Patriot PAC3’s started arrving at their base in Greece. When all the deliveries are complete, they will equip the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd Patriot battalions operating from Athens, Skyros and Thessaloniki respectively.
-At it’s meeting on March 1 2002, the Hellenic Defence Council (KYSEA) decided to proceed with the purchase of 12 C-27J Spartan transport aircraft and 60 ASPIS electronic warfare systems to equip it’s new F-16’s which will start arriving at the end of the year. Also decided was the purchase of 170 Leopard 2A6EX tanks (Leopard 2GR in Greek service) which includes in house assembly line and 123 Leopard 2A4’s.
