The Indian Navy, is looking to bolster their numbers by leasing four Tu22M3 Backfires, they say that they are concerned about how many P-3’s and Atlantique 1’s the Pakistanis have flying!
Also the Indian Navy is currently in talk with Russian officials regarding a posible upgrade to their fleet of Tu-142M’s, the upgrade requested is to cover:
1. Fitting the a/c out to fire anti-ship missiles
2. New anti-submarine missiles
3. New EW equipment in the form of the Sea Dragon anti-ship warfare system
4. Goes 321 day/night observation system
5. Data linking between a/c and the proposed nuclear command center
The deal is said to be worth US$500M
Finally, Russia and India have agreed to jointly develop and build a “Multirole Combat Aircraft”, no details are yet known, but the emphasis will be on R+D of military equipment. Russia has proven to been the most reliable ally, proving their friendship during the 99 Kashmir boarder clash!
