After seeing the problems the Luftwaffe has at the moment to get a modest amount of supplies to Turkey I was wondering if the A 400 M is the right decision for Europe. or should the ageing Transports of today (old Hercs and Transalls) be replaced by a combination of new Hercs and C 17 ??
I personally feel that it would be better to have C 17 (for example pooled in one European squadron to cut down maintanance costs) to get a global reach capability fast instead of waiting for the A 400 M.
Intra theater transport could be done by C 130 J (also used for lighter loads). And for the normal peacetime ash and trash hauling how about some C 27 J ?? This combination seems to offer more potential then the A 400 M.
Especially Germany could get a great (and quick) replacement of it´s old C 160 and even save money in the long term.
How about :
8 C 17
20 C 130
20 C 27
instead of the planned A 400 M.
