15 years have passed …

LAST EDITED ON 16-10-01 AT 07:57 AM (GMT)[p]On October 16 1986 Israeli Air Force navigator Lt. Colonel Ron Arad bailed out of his Phantom over Sidon, in Southern Lebanon. While the pilot of the aircraft was rescued, Arad was captured by the Iranian-backed Amal organization. Captured alive and well, Arad was allowed to send and receive letters (via the Red Cross) to his family. This however stopped in 1988 and there has been no word of him since. No Red Cross representative has been allowed to see him, Arad has been denied the most basic rights afforded POWs according to all international conventions. Iran and Syria (the main power brocker in Lebanon) deny ALL knowledge of his whereabouts or welfare, this despite intelligence that suggests these nations’ involvement in his capture and captivity, as well as the funding of the organizations known to have held him (Amal, Hizbullah). No matter we you stand on Mid-East politics, there is no justification whatsoever to this treatment of another human being.

I know this isn’t much of a discussion starter, but I simply had to post it. 15 years are long enough …
