This helicopter seems out of place in a world of modern streamlined helos such as the Cobra and even new Huey variants. I don’t know why, but it kinda took my attention recently. It seems to be, from what I read, a very versatile and popular helicopter that is still in very widespread service with no signs of leaving the aviation world any time soon. Just wondering what opinions of it are. Seems to be old, but still very useful. To my knowledge, the French, Indian, and Pakistani, and Argentinian navies use them from ships in roles such as SAR and even ASW, as the aircraft can apparently be fitted with MAD gear for use in that role. It can also carry up to six troops or passengers as well as be fitted with a 20-mm cannon so maybe assault would still be a good role, although I would guess it would be pretty vulnerable. I am not sure, but I think the AS.12 wire-guided missile is still used both in anti-ship and anti-surface roles. Argentina for one employs the missile in the ASV role. Just wondering how people rate this helicopter. Interesting is the best word I can come up with. Useful would be a good one as well. Anyway, contributions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
