For those of you that don’t know, the AB.212 is a license-built version of the Bell Model 212 (UH-1N) Twin Huey. It is built by Agusta-Bell of Italy. The AB.212/ASW is obviously the naval multi-purpose helicopter version primarily used for sub hunting and anti-ship duties. It is fitted with a roof-mounted radar which provides over-the-horizon targeting. It can carry up to two air-launched torpedoes of three differet types. They are the Mk-44, Mk-46, and A244. It can also carry two different types of anti-ship missiles. They are the Sea Skua, and Marte Mk 2. I was just wondering how you would rate this helicopter. It seems to be a pretty good helo, as it uses the proven Huey airframe with modern avionics and effective weapons for its role. How good do you guys think this chopper is? How do you think it compares to some of the world’s other ASW choppers such as the SH-60, Lynx, Ka-27, etc. Comments, opinions, and interesting facts are what I am looking for. Thanks.
