There have been proposals in Australia (mainly by some daft guy called Carlo Kopp, but he does know his F-111s) to re-radar RAAF F-111s with the APG-70 SAR from the F-15E, arm it with AMRAAMs and ASRAAMs (coupled to HMCS), even re-engining with GE-F110s and use it in a secondary role as a long-range interceptor. What do you guys think of such an idea?
Personally, such a conversion of the F-111 into a more “multi-roled” aircraft may not prove good value, as there’s absolutely no need currently in Australia for an interceptor with that kind of range, the F/A-18s are more than capable of establishing air-superiority as it is, and the Wedgetail and JORN can only help that.
