USAF Tornado?

Remember when the Tornado was being marketed to the US? This was probably in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s. I believe that Rockwell or Grumman was the US partner in this effort. An interesting scenario: If the USAF had bought Tornado (presumably the IDS variant), how would this had affected future aircraft procurement with respect to the F-15E?
