Macedonian forces have exchanged sporadic fire with ethnic Albanian rebels, breaking a unilateral ceasefire which had been extended by the government.
Heavy machine-gun and artillery fire echoed around rebel-held villages in northern Macedonia on Saturday, after a night of more intense clashes.
A Macedonian army spokesman, Blagoja Markovski, said the rebels opened up with sniper and machine-gun fire and the army responded with artillery barrages on Saturday.
